A unique experience amongst the chateau of the Dordogne
Navigating the Dordogne River is for some, the best way to see the Dordogne Valley. From your watery route, you will happen across Chateau de la Malartrie, now a prestigious gite in La Roque Gageac, the Chateau of Castelnaud, a medieval fortress that dominates the valley, the chateau of Beynac, perched on its rocky outcrop to name but a few. These emblematic monuments are guaranteed to transform a simple trip in a boat into a spectacular voyage into the past.

Our Most Popular Route
The Circuit des Chateaux passes by the Bastide of Domme, the troglodytic village of La Roque Gageac, the Malartrie Chateau, Castelnaud Chateau et Fayrac Chateau finishing at the foot of the majestic Chateau of Beynac.

Our Least Popular Route, of two
Our Circuit of Doom is terrible for its ghostly silence beneath eerie limestone cliffs, skulking through dark formidable forests and past the screaming village people of the Dordogne.
Actually it’s quite nice really. A pleasant float in a boat from Carsac to Beynac passing between all the best villages and various castles. Notably the Chateaux of Monfort, Malartrie, Castelnaud, Fayrac and terminating inevitably below the chateau of Beynac.
Though while most people return intact, it is said, most never speak of it again … hence why I don’t have so many Google comments yet.

Consignes de sécurité
To keep your adventure fun but safe, please respect the following guidelines :
• All participants must by able to swim 25m and not panic if under the water
• You must wear your buoyancy aid at all times on the river
• Wear closed shoes at all times
• Children are welcome from 5+ years if they know how to swim
• In high temperatures, bring water and sun protection cream
• Please attach your glasses and shoes so as not the loose them
• Navigate in the middle of the river
• Respect all other users of the river, and the surrounding nature
• Paddle around swimming zones
• Keep well clear of branches, bridge pillars and fishermen and their lines
Paddling advice
How to paddle a canoe or kayak
- Paddle on the right to turn left
- Paddle on the left to turn right
- In a kayak, paddle alternately to keep in a straight line
- In a canoe, each person paddles on opposite sides to remain going straight
How to empty water from your canoe after a capsize
- If your boat is slightly submerged, don’t attempt to remove it from the water. Full of water, it weighs 3 tons !!
- Whilst still submerged, roll the boat onto its side and then slow move it up the shore, back-end first.
- The water should gradually flood out
- Put the boat on the shore upside down for the last few drops to drip out through the hole in the tip
